Working With Adults

I believe that everyone has the capacity to heal and grow, no matter what challenges they face. I am committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing space where you can explore your deepest fears, concerns, and desires. I understand that seeking therapy can be a difficult decision, and I want you to know that I honor and respect your courage in taking this step.

Common Reasons Adults Seek Therapy

Adults seek therapy for many different reasons, and there is no single “right” reason to begin. If any of these experiences resonate with you, reach out to Steady Heart Counselling for counselling services that can offer a supportive space to begin exploring what you’re going through.

Adult Therapy

My approach is holistic and client-centered. I take time to understand your unique needs, goals, and preferences so we can shape the work in a way that truly fits you. Together, we might draw from evidence-based practices like mindfulness-based therapy, interpersonal therapy, or inner child work to help you move through challenges and feel more grounded in your life.

I support adults of all ages and backgrounds, and I aim to create a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether you’re looking for short-term support or ongoing care, I’m here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Adult Therapy

In adult therapy, I may use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as a practical way to work with thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that contribute to stress, anxiety, or low mood. CBT can support greater awareness of patterns and help identify changes that feel achievable in everyday life.

CBT is used collaboratively and flexibly, rather than as a rigid structure. When helpful, it is integrated with talk therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and depth-oriented work, allowing sessions to remain responsive to your goals, pace, and individual needs.

What to Expect From Adult Therapy

Number 1

An Initial Session to Get Started

Adult therapy typically begins with an initial session focused on understanding what brings you to therapy and what you would like support with. This first conversation helps clarify your concerns, goals, and what you’re hoping to gain from counselling.

Number 2

One-on-One Counselling Sessions

Sessions are one-on-one and offer a private, welcoming space to talk openly about concerns related to mental health, relationships, work, or life transitions. This space is designed to feel supportive, respectful, and focused on what matters most to you.

Number 3

Ongoing Support at Your Pace

Ongoing counselling sessions are collaborative and move at a pace that feels right for you. Therapy may focus on developing coping strategies, increasing self-awareness, and exploring patterns that affect your well-being, with support tailored to your goals and needs over time.

Your Registered Clinical Counsellor in Victoria, BC

Paul Cellarius (RCC, CCC, MA)

I work with adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain, and who are looking for support as they navigate stress, emotional challenges, or life transitions. In adult therapy, I focus on creating a calm, grounded counselling space where you can explore what’s coming up for you without pressure or judgment.

My training is in depth psychology through Pacifica Graduate Institute, and I am also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing. I aim to be steady, thoughtful, and present in my work, supporting adults as they build greater self-awareness, resilience, and clarity in their lives.
