Family Counselling

Whether your family is navigating emotional challenges, relationship concerns, or periods of change, counselling offers a supportive space to begin healing and strengthening your connection together.

Working With Children and Families

As a certified Therapist, I work with children and families in a way that honours each family’s unique dynamics, values, and experiences. Counselling provides a safe, compassionate space where children feel supported and parents can better understand what their child is experiencing.

Paul Cellarius (RCC, CCC, MA)

I work with children, parents, and families who are navigating challenges that affect family relationships and day-to-day life. My role is to support families in understanding what is happening beneath the surface and to help create space for connection, clarity, and change.

My training is in depth psychology through Pacifica Graduate Institute, with additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing. I bring a calm, thoughtful presence to this work and aim to support both children and parents in ways that feel respectful, steady, and grounded.

Frequently Asked Questions.

What does family counselling focus on?

Child and family counselling focuses on relationships within the family, including communication patterns, emotional dynamics, and how challenges are experienced together. The goal is to support understanding and connection within the family rather than focusing on one person as the problem.

What is the difference between family therapy and family counselling?

Family therapy and family counselling are often used interchangeably. In general, both focus on supporting families in understanding challenges, improving relationships, and navigating change together. The specific approach depends on the needs of the family and the goals of counselling.

How do I explain family counselling to my child?

You can explain family counselling to your child as a place where families go to talk, understand each other better, and get help with challenges. Keeping the explanation simple and reassuring can help children feel more comfortable about attending.

What happens during a first counselling session with a child?

The first session is often focused on getting to know the family and understanding the concerns that led to counselling. This may involve meeting with parents, children, or both, depending on the situation, and discussing how counselling might best support the family moving forward

Steady Heart Counselling provides child and family counselling for families seeking support, understanding, and guidance during times of change.
